Fuse Board Upgrades (18th Edition)
Keeping up with the latest electrical safety regulations is essential for both homeowners and businesses. At Aberdeen Rewires, we specialise in upgrading old fuse boards to the latest 18th Edition standards with RCBOs (Residual Current Circuit Breakers with Overcurrent Protection) and SPDs (Surge Protection Devices).
Why Upgrade?
1. Enhanced Safety
The 18th Edition focuses on reducing the risk of electric shock and fire. Upgrading ensures your home or business meets the highest safety standards, protecting both people and property.
2. Better Protection
Our boards include RCBOs on every circuit – meaning if one trips, it only affects that circuit, not half your home (unlike cheaper split-load boards with just 2 RCDs).
Optional SPDs protect your equipment from power surges caused by lightning or internal switching.
3. Compliance & Insurance
Upgrading keeps your property compliant with UK regulations. Non-compliance could risk fines or invalidate your insurance.
Why Choose Aberdeen Rewires?
Expertise: Skilled, qualified electricians who work to the latest standards.
Quality: We use trusted materials, provide tidy installations, and include a 2-year warranty.
Fair Pricing:
£570 fixed price for homes with up to 8 circuits – including RCBOs on every breaker.
Optional extras such as SPDs are available on request. Most companies use split-way boards which are cheaper but only contain 2 RCDs which have 6 MCB circuits on them so if the RCD trips it will turn off the 6 circuits. That's why you should choose RCBOS for all breakers, this is an RCD and MCB into one so if the RCBO breaker detects a residual fault it will only trip one circuit and not all 6. See the reference photos below for more clarity
Optional extras:

RCDs and MCBs
Vs
ALL RCBOs
New tails at a £50 extra. - This is only required if your original tails are 16mm as, to comply with 18th edition iring regulations they need to be 25mm with 16mm earth.
SPD - At £40 they provide peace of mind to prevent damage to your electronics. A surge in power can damage your TV and other appliances to never work again. SPDs are not mandatory but the customer should take it upon themselves to do their research before choosing not to include one.
AFDDs - will have to be installed if you like in a skyscraper to comply with the regulations these are in place of your RCBOs but aren't required for your usual house or flat.
